So I'm planning to make a cake for Rosh Hashana 2009. (The Jewish new year.)

It's kind of a big deal for me, and I'm doing things that I've never done before with cake decorating.

The cake:

The same layer cake as seen here. Yellow buttercream cake, with buttercream frosting.

The decorating:

Half of the cake is to be baked in a dome bowl, the other half is to be baked in a cake pan the same width of the bowl. Frosting will be put around the cake and in between the layers. (It's going to be a dome shaped cake with frosting in the middle.)

The cake is then covered with white fondant, and around the base is a thin strip (less than 1", I think) of red fondant. On the top, in the center, a simple, red rose, perhaps with a leaf.

(I was originally trying to decide between red and pastel pink, but I'm 70% sure I'm going to go with red, because I think pink may be too girly for the occasion)
